Stigma and discrimination have been hallmarks of living with HIV from the beginning of the epidemic. Investigators for the Medical Monitoring Project measured the prevalence of self-reported healthcare discrimination in relation to demographic and clinical factors among persons living with HIV (PLWH). Using prevalence ratios, data from interviews and medical records in 3850 PLWH who had received HIV care during the preceding 12 months were evaluated to assess any experience of discrimination and its association with selected sociodemographic (gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, income/social class, homelessness, and injection drug use) and clinical characteristics (depression, anxiety, viral suppression, and retention in care).
