Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has been demonstrated to improve outcomes for selected patients with a large vessel occlusion (LVO) and acute ischemic stroke. Relatively few studies have compared different endovascular techniques. These authors conducted a trial of patients who could be treated within 8 hours of stroke onset, had evidence of a LVO, and were randomly assigned to treatment with a stent retriever (SR) alone or SR plus aspiration (SR+A). The primary study outcome was excellent recanalization as evidenced by angiography. Clinical outcomes were also recorded up to 12 months after the stroke.
