New permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) is required in up to 20% of patients after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), but studies of outcomes in these patients show conflicting results. In this nationwide, population-based cohort study, researchers evaluated the effect of PPI on survival among all patients undergoing transfemoral TAVR in Sweden between 2008 and 2018 who survived at least 30 days postprocedure.
Among 3420 patients (mean age, 81 years; 50% women), 481 (14%) underwent PPI within 30 days after TAVR. Patients with previously implanted pacemakers were excluded from this study.
