Although many COVID-19 prognostic scores have been developed, comparative external validation and comparison with established scores for pneumonia or sepsis has been lacking. Using data from 14,343 patients (mean age, 68) treated between January 2020 and April 2021 at 39 university hospitals in and around Paris, researchers assessed discriminative characteristics of 32 published scores (23 specifically derived in COVID-19 patients and 9 developed previously for other purposes) for predicting 30-day in-hospital mortality and the composite outcome of 30-day in-hospital mortality or need for intensive care unit transfer.
