Sotrovimab is the third monoclonal antibody preparation to be effective for treating patients at risk for disease progression.

One of the most heartening advances in the management of COVID-19 is the development of monoclonal antibody preparations that effectively lower risk for hospitalization and death in patients treated early in the course of symptomatic disease. Sotrovimab is an engineered human monoclonal antibody derived from an individual previously infected with SARS-CoV-1 (the virus that causes SARS). The antibody, which binds to an epitope separate from the receptor-binding domain, has in vitro activity against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants. It also has a modification in the Fc region that potentially increases serum half-life and respiratory mucosal concentrations.
