The association between Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and common vaccines inspires ongoing debate (Clin Infect Dis 2019; 69:726). A small excess risk after influenza vaccine appears more certain than risk from any other approved vaccine product. Now, however, initial safety data compiled after release of the new recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV; Shingrix) has indicated a possible excess risk with that product as well.
To probe this association further, federal researchers performed several additional analyses.
