People with diabetes are at high risk for developing heart failure (HF), which adversely affects an individual's prognosis and has broader effects in this patient population. In a prespecified analysis of the manufacturer-funded, placebo-controlled FIGARO-DKD trial (NCT02545049), researchers assessed whether the selective, nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid-receptor antagonist finerenone prevented HF events in people with type 2 diabetes and albuminuric chronic kidney disease (CKD). The analysis included 7352 trial participants (mean age, 64 years; 69% men; 8% with prior HF).
