The industry-funded EMPEROR-Preserved (Empagliflozin Outcome Trial in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction; NCT03057951) trial showed that empagliflozin, a sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor, reduced the risk for cardiovascular death or heart failure hospitalization in patients with heart failure with preserved systolic function and a left ventricular ejection fraction >40%. In a secondary analysis, the investigators have evaluated the effect of empagliflozin on health status using the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ).
