Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a common complication that can increase the risk for death. To develop and validate a simple risk score for predicting contrast-associated AKI, investigators used data for patients who underwent PCI from 2012 through 2020 at a large tertiary care center.
There were 14,616 patients with paired creatinine measurements in the derivation cohort and 5606 in the validation cohort. Contrast-associated AKI occurred in 4.3% of patients.
