Patients with significant left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD) traditionally have been treated with coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) — but as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) outcomes have improved, interest in applying this approach to patients with LMCAD has grown. To inform current treatment decisions, investigators performed an individual patient data meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials comparing PCI with drug-eluting stents versus CABG (primary endpoint, 5-year all-cause mortality).
