In 2021, evidence-based treatment for COVID-19 finally became available for outpatients. Three intravenous monoclonal antibody therapies that target the virus received emergency use authorization for adult and adolescent outpatients (age, ≥12) with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 symptoms, a positive test for SARS-CoV-2, and high risk for progression to severe illness; high-risk criteria include age ≥65, obesity, pregnancy, and various underlying medical conditions. Patients in the randomized treatment trials that led to emergency use authorization generally conformed to these criteria.
