A study suggests that some PAD patients still don't receive statins.
Clinical guidelines strongly endorse use of statins in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). In this retrospective study, researchers used a U.S. national cardiovascular disease registry to identify the statin status of patients who underwent limb revascularization procedures for PAD from 2014 to 2019.
Among 126,000 patients, 42,000 were not taking statins at the time of their revascularization procedures, and only 30% of the latter patients were prescribed statins at discharge. Patients with traditional cardiovascular risk factors were more likely to be discharged with statin prescriptions.
