Over the last 20 years, there have been considerable changes in stroke patient demographics, prevalence and management of risk factors, available diagnostic and imaging tests, and treatments for acute stroke. The Japan Stroke Data Bank, a nationwide hospital-based registry, provides an opportunity to explore the population-level impacts of these developments on trends in stroke presentations and outcomes over time. Investigators identified all patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke registered within 7 days of symptom onset between January 2000 and December 2019 to evaluate for trends in baseline characteristics and outcomes over time.
