The World Health Organization has set a goal of 2030 for reducing the global incidence of gonorrhea by 90% — and vaccination is one way to achieve this. A recent study found that immunization with the outer membrane vesicle meningococcal B vaccine had a vaccine effectiveness against gonorrhea of 31%, suggesting that designing a specific vaccine against Neisseria gonorrhoeae is possible.
