Because research has suggested that vitamin K antagonism leads to impaired insulin sensitivity and glucose intolerance, diabetic complications could be affected in patients with atrial fibrillation who receive warfarin rather than direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs; e.g., apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, rivaroxaban).
