Microscopic hematuria is a frequent incidental finding that often prompts extensive urologic evaluation with imaging and cystoscopy. Although urothelial malignancy is less common in women than in men, microscopic hematuria is more common in women, perhaps due to vaginal contamination.
In this single-center U.S. study, researchers sought to identify characteristics of urinalyses that predict “true microscopic hematuria” (defined as ≥3 red blood cells [RBCs] per high-powered field on a catheterized sample).
