Neurosarcoidosis presents both diagnostic and treatment challenges. To assess features, prognostic factors, and treatment effects, researchers conducted a multicenter review of 97 patients with sarcoid myelitis followed for a median 7.8 years, between 1995 and 2021.
Mean age was 43 years. Presentation was chronic (≥2 months) in 65% and acute (≤1 week) in 10%. Sensory symptoms were present in 91%, motor symptoms in 62%, and sphincter symptoms in 62%. Loss of autonomy occurred for 71%. Isolated central nervous system (CNS) sarcoidosis, without extraneurologic involvement, occurred in 12%.
