In this retrospective, observational study, investigators compared long-term survival with two septal reduction therapies — alcohol septal ablation (ASA) and surgical myomectomy — in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Procedures were performed at three high-volume centers over a 20-year period.
Patients undergoing ASA (n=585) were significantly older (median age, 63 vs. 54 years) than those undergoing surgical myomectomy (n=3272) and had more comorbidities, including renal failure, diabetes, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.
