Early detection of behavioral changes may assist in determining whether someone has frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). Researchers from the ALLFTD Consortium developed the Social Behavior Observer Checklist (SBOCL) to determine if it was sensitive to early behavior changes and disease severity in frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Examiners who were blinded to participants' diagnosis rated behaviors from the SBOCL based on interactions during a 30- to 60-minute clinical evaluation. Behaviors were clustered into three subscales: Disorganized, Reactive, and Insensitive. The researchers also analyzed associations between SBOC scores and standard measures of both MRI brain findings and caregiver burden.
