The American Heart Association has updated its Life's Simply 7™ tool for quantifying cardiovascular health (CVH), now called Life's Essential 8™. This latest iteration adds healthy sleep to 3 other health behaviors — diet, physical activity, and nicotine exposure (including vaping and secondhand smoke) — and 4 health factors — body-mass index, blood lipids, blood glucose, and blood pressure — used to calculate a CVH score of 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest). In the current study, researchers used this newest algorithm to estimate the prevalences of CVH and individual CVH metrics among U.S. adults and children.
