Human monkeypox infection previously was uncommon worldwide, with cases typically imported from West Africa. The current epidemic is characterized by community transmission that, thus far, almost exclusively involves men who have sex with men (MSM). In a retrospective case series between May 13 and July 1, 2022, researchers describe clinical features of the disease in 197 individuals in London with PCR-confirmed monkeypox (median age, 38; 99% MSM). The vast majority reported sexual contact with a male partner within 21 days of symptom onset. In 27%, this contact was with a person who had symptomatic or confirmed monkeypox infection.
