Discussions about driving are among the more difficult encounters that clinicians have with aging patients and their families. In this trial, researchers explored whether an online decision aid might be helpful for older drivers.
The study included 301 older drivers (mean age, 77) who had at least one progressive medical condition that might interfere with driving ability; patients with dementia were excluded. Each participant was required to have a “partner” (e.g., family member) who might be involved with decisions about driving.
