Infections are important in the development of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and are associated with some clinical features and severity of the disease. Campylobacter jejuni, hepatitis E virus (HEV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Epstein-Barr (EBV) virus have all been associated with the disease. To examine associations between different antecedent infections and GBS outcomes across a wide geographic area, these researchers conducted a prospective observational cohort study using data collected in the International GBS Outcome Study (IGOS).
