Cefepime/enmetazobactam (CE) has in vitro activity against susceptible and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)–producing Enterobacterales. To evaluate the clinical activity of CE for treating complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI), investigators randomized adult patients with cUTI to receive up to 14 days of CE or piperacillin/tazobactam (PT). They assessed the proportion of patients achieving the primary outcome, a composite of clinical cure and a reduction from baseline to <103 CFU/mL in urinary bacterial counts at day 14.
