The industry-funded EMPEROR-Preserved randomized trial showed that the sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor empagliflozin lowers risks for hospitalization for heart failure (HF) and a composite outcome of HF hospitalization or cardiovascular-related death, regardless of diabetes status (NEJM JW Gen Med Oct 1 2021 and N Engl J Med 2021; 385:1451).
