Surgical-site infection after colorectal surgery is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, longer hospital stays, and higher costs. Perioperative intravenous (IV) antibiotic prophylaxis (standard of care) decreases perioperative complications, whereas mechanical bowel preparation has shown no benefit.
