Multiple studies have shown that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is highly efficacious against recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), but whether FMT would be of similar benefit for early CDI has been less clear. Investigators at a Danish academic medical center undertook a randomized trial of two doses of placebo versus FMT (prepared from rigorously screened donors and given in oral capsules) administered within 7 days of completing the initial treatment (≥10 days of oral vancomycin in all participants). The primary outcome was resolution of CDI 8 weeks after the second study dose.
