While significant attention has been paid to the clinical complications of hospital-acquired influenza and COVID-19, less is known about the impact of healthcare-associated respiratory syncytial virus (HA-RSV) in hospitalized adult patients. To address this question, researchers at two New York academic medical centers retrospectively compared the clinical characteristics of 84 adult patients with HA-RSV (detected at least 4 days after admission) versus 160 patients with community-onset RSV (CO-RSV; detected within 3 days of admission) over three respiratory virus seasons.
