Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an atopic disease characterized by esophageal inflammation that leads to feeding disorders and pain in children and dysphagia and food impaction in adults. It is diagnosed when ≥15 eosinophils per high-powered field (HPF) are seen on esophageal biopsies. Several treatment options, including diet modifications and various drugs, are available for patients with EoE.
Although an elemental diet often induces remission in infants, such a diet isn't practical or palatable for older patients.
