In the NEJM Journal Watch General Medicine annual review of important clinical research from the past year, we try to balance relevance to general medical practice and recognition of landmark studies and key guidelines. Our editors — a combination of outpatient-based physicians and hospitalists — have chosen topics that should be of interest to most clinicians who see adult patients, regardless of practice setting.
