Plasma biomarkers may detect underlying Alzheimer disease (AD). In this study, researchers analyzed which plasma biomarkers predicted cognitive decline in cognitively unimpaired participants from two longitudinal prospective cohorts. Participants were amyloid-positive at baseline based on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or Pittsburgh Compound B (PiB) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. In addition to CSF and PiB PET biomarkers, baseline biomarkers included plasma phosphorylated tau 181, phosphorylated tau 217 (p-tau217), phosphorylated tau 231, glial fibrillary filament protein, and neurofilament light chain.
