The growth of telemedicine mandates that clinicians hone their diagnostic skills for telephone or video interviewing. In this study, researchers examined the performance of a 10-point cognitive screen (called 10-CS) that is administered via telephone; this tool — which requires no reading, writing, or drawing — has been validated previously for in-person encounters.
The 10-CS awards 1 point each for correct year, month, and date; 1 point for each of 3 named objects that are remembered several minutes later; and points in response to “give me names of all the animals you can think of” within 1 minute (4 points for ≥15 names, fewer points when fewer animals are named).*
