Global expansion of hepatitis C treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAA) has been impeded by the cost of medications and monitoring. In an open-label trial, researchers applied a minimal monitoring strategy (in-person visits occurring only at initiation and week-24 assessment for sustained virologic response [SVR]) to evaluate adherence to 12 weeks of sofosbuvir/velpatasvir in persons without decompensated cirrhosis. In all, 395 of 399 enrolled subjects from the U.S., Brazil, South Africa, Thailand, and Uganda reported having completed the treatment when seen at 24 weeks.
