Colchicine has anti-inflammatory activity in patients with gout, and short-term use improves symptoms in patients with osteoarthritis (OA; Biomed Res Int 2022 Jan 22; [e-pub]). However, colchicine is not recommended currently for managing OA. Investigators performed a post hoc analysis of a randomized trial that involved 5500 patients (85% men) with coronary disease and serum creatinine ≤1.7 who received colchicine 0.5 mg daily or placebo; the original trial showed better cardiac outcomes among colchicine recipients (NEJM JW Cardiol Oct 2020 and N Engl J Med 2020; 383:1838 and Circulation 2020; 142:1996).
