Dengue, a mosquito-borne arbovirus infection, is rising globally and a leading cause of febrile illness in travelers returning from tropical and subtropical regions. Dengue-related deaths have generally increased — but what are the outcomes of dengue acquired by travelers? Using WHO classifications of severe or complicated dengue (the latter defined as confirmed or probable dengue with evidence of severe dengue, or dengue with warning signs only), researchers conducted a retrospective chart review of travelers with complicated dengue reported through the worldwide surveillance network GeoSentinel from January 2007 through July 2022.
