Spinal cord infarction (SCInf) is a rare condition representing about 1.2% of all ischemic strokes and 6% of all acute myelopathies. SCInf occurs spontaneously or in a periprocedural or traumatic setting. Consensus has not been reached on diagnostic criteria. To identify typical features and predictors of functional outcome after SCInf, researchers conducted a retrospective study of patients diagnosed with SCInf at one Swedish hospital.
A total of 57 patients with SCInf (median age, 68 years; 39% female) were included, 30 (53%) with spontaneous and 27 (47%) with periprocedural infarctions.
