Dopamine-depleting drugs have been used in clinical practice to treat chorea and other hyperkinetic movement disorders. Valbenazine, a selective vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitor that leads to dopamine depletion, was tested in this phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, manufacturer-sponsored study of patients with Huntington disease and chorea without unstable medical or psychiatric disease. Investigators randomly assigned 128 participants to receive placebo or valbenazine at up to 80 mg daily as tolerated for 12 weeks.
