Evidence shows that both midline catheters (peripheral intravenous devices) and single-lumen peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) have lower rates of complications (e.g., central line–associated bloodstream infection and venous thromboembolism [VTE]) than multi-lumen PICCs.
