With the large growth in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures, it is likely that redo TAVR for failed prostheses will become increasingly necessary. In this industry-funded analysis of a U.S. TAVR registry, investigators compared the results of redo TAVR with a balloon-expandable valve (BEV) prosthesis with results of initial TAVR of native valve in matched patients.
Among 1320 propensity-matched pairs of patients (mean age, 78 years; 42% women; mean surgical risk, 8%), researchers found the following:
