Early identification and treatment of persons living with HIV is central to ending the HIV epidemic. Despite state mandates for HIV screening, investigators at one large hospital in New York City continued to note missed opportunities (MOs) among newly diagnosed patients; therefore, they retrospectively assessed demographic and clinical factors predictive of such MOs among patients newly diagnosed between 2018 and 2022. MOs were defined as encounters at which screening was not performed during the 365 days before the new HIV diagnosis.
