Cytomegalovirus (CMV) serostatus prior to hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) has implications for posttransplant CMV monitoring and prophylaxis as well as donor choice. Receipt of numerous transfusions between diagnosis and HCT can yield false-positive CMV serology, with some CMV seronegative patients being erroneously classified as seropositive.
