Certain species of mollicutes typically infect the urogenital tract, although extragenital infections can occur. As these organisms metabolize urea and arginine, lung donor-to-recipient transmission is associated with hyperammonemia syndrome (HS) characterized by often-fatal encephalopathy. Tam et al. have analyzed risk factors, clinical characteristics, and outcomes associated with donor-derived mollicutes infection after lung transplantation at one academic hospital from 2010 through 2019.
