Comparison of Maneuvers to Treat Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a relatively common condition characterized by short episodes of spinning positional vertigo caused by otoconia that move freely, most frequently in the posterior semicircular canal. Repositioning maneuvers such as the Epley (EM) or the Semont-plus maneuver (SM-plus) are the most frequently used treatment for this condition. To compare the effectiveness of these two maneuvers in the treatment of posterior-canal BPPV, researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial at three referral centers in Germany, Italy, and Belgium.
