Lower-extremity cellulitis leads to antibiotic treatment and hospitalization relatively often, yet objective data are surprisingly sparse regarding the natural history of this infection after effective treatment. Investigators queried prospectively obtained clinical data from a prior trial that had assessed the impact of adding a short course of clindamycin to oral or intravenous flucloxacillin on cellulitis outcomes. Previous analyses had found no effect on clinical outcomes of addition of clindamycin, use of intravenous versus oral flucloxacillin, or 5 days versus >5 days of antibiotic treatment.
