While immunocompromised hosts (ICH) clearly have elevated risk for pneumonia, data are scant regarding epidemiology and outcomes associated with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) in this population. Now, researchers have examined data from a prospective population-based cohort study of 7449 adult patients hospitalized for CAP in Louisville, Kentucky, from 2014–2016 (prior to the COVID-19 pandemic).
In all, 10% of the study population were either immunocompromised or severely immunocompromised.
