The appropriate antithrombotic regimen after successful catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) remains unknown. Existing guidelines recommend a minimum of 3 months of postprocedural anticoagulation with further treatment based on underlying risk. In an observational study based on national administrative claims data from Japan, investigators examined the association between continuing anticoagulation and thromboembolic and hemorrhagic outcomes in 231,374 patients with AF, taking into account their underlying thromboembolic risk based on the CHADS2 score.
