Tracking stroke incidence rates is important to determine whether primary risk factor control is adequate. In addition, trends in different racial groups can help tailor specific preventative programs for high-risk groups. In this report, researchers analyzed stroke incidence trends from the well-established Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky study. The authors evaluated stroke admissions in all acute care hospitals during a full year every 5 years from 1993 through 2015. Age trends and patterns according to racial group and stroke subtype — ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) — were examined.
