Analysis of community wastewater samples from designated districts has proven successful for early detection and measurement of real-time prevalence of several diseases, including COVID-19. Now, researchers with the CDC's National Wastewater Surveillance System have applied this method to demonstrate the sensitivity and positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV) of an assay for mpox virus (MPXV) compared with case reporting at the time of the assays.
