One-Year Outcomes After Thrombectomy for Large-Core Infarcts

Results were better with thrombectomy compared with medical management, but overall death and dependency rates were high.

Several recent studies have addressed the potential role of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in patients with large volumes of ischemic tissue on baseline imaging. All studies have reported 90-day outcomes, whereas there is little information on longer-term outcomes. Investigators from the SELECT2 trial have already reported 90-day outcomes. This industry-funded analysis looked at 1-year results. Patients aged 18 to 85 years were enrolled with a documented occlusion of either the distal internal carotid artery or proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA).
