Compared with white women, Black and Hispanic women with MS had greater pre-pregnancy disability and worse outcomes on some pregnancy-related care standards but similar MS-related health outcomes.
For patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), special care is needed in family planning (NEJM JW Neurol Oct 10 2023 and Neurol Neuroimmunol Neuroinflamm 2023; 10:e200161; NEJM JW Neurol Oct 12 2023 and Ann Clin Transl Neurol 2023; 10:2053). While MS does not typically affect conception or pregnancy, special considerations for optimal care are needed.
Investigators from nine U.S. MS centers conducted this retrospective cohort study, which included 294 live births among 81 Black, 67 Hispanic, and 146 white women with MS.
